Preserving ancient art forms is really important to me, and I want to explain why. It's not just about remembering where we come from; it's also about celebrating the beauty and creativity of past cultures. By keeping these old art forms alive, we can learn valuable lessons, inspire new ideas, appreciate the talents and perspectives of our ancestors.Heres why I think it’s important to preserve ancient art forms: 1. Cultural Richness: Ancient art, like Kantha cloth weaving, tells stories through intricate stitching and patterns. Preserving it keeps these culturally rich stories alive for future generations to enjoy and learn from. I did the illustration below to thank the Kantha cloth weavers for making this world a more beautiful place to live in. It’s my way of showing my appreciation for the soft, airy cloth they’ve been weaving for centuries, and how much I cherish their work. 2. Connection to the Past: There's something so special about feeling connected to the past, don't you think? Ancient art, like my illustration of an Indian musician playing the Veena, allows us to glimpse into the lives and experiences of people who lived long before us. It's like a bridge that connects us to our ancestors and their way of life. 3. Inspiration for Today: As artists, we're always looking for new sources of inspiration. Ancient art is a goldmine of ideas and techniques just waiting to be explored. Whether it's the intricate patterns of chinoiserie or the delicate art of kigigami, there's so much we can learn and draw inspiration from. 4. Appreciation for Craftsmanship: Have you ever looked at an ancient artwork and been blown away by the level of skill and craftsmanship that went into creating it? I know I have. Preserving ancient art means we're acknowledging and celebrating the talent and dedication of the artists who came before us. And my illustration of a Kirigami lion showcases the art of kirigami, where paper is carefully folded to create intricate shapes. 5. Gift For Tomorrow: Finally, preserving ancient art forms is about leaving a legacy for future generations. Just as we have been inspired by the art of our ancestors, I hope our own artwork, like my illustration of the kirigami elephant below will inspire those who come after us. It's like passing the torch of creativity and imagination from one generation to the next. So, those are just a few reasons why I think preserving old art forms is super important. It's like holding onto a time machine that lets us peek into the minds and hearts of people from long ago. Plus, it adds incredible depth and richness to our lives today, like discovering hidden treasures right in our own backyard. And who doesn't love being part of a grand adventure to keep these amazing pieces of history alive for the future? What do you think? Let's chat!
